ASTM International Standards on Sustainability in Buildings, 2nd Edition
CD-ROM released in 2005 by ASTM International, West Conshohocken, PA; 610-832-9585; www.astm.org; $193.
ASTM International has released an updated version of its “Sustainability in Buildings” CD-ROM (see
EBN
Vol. 12, No. 7 for a review of the first version). Sponsored by ASTM’s Subcommittee on Sustainability, the CD features 107 standards related to green building, including all of the standards referenced in the Whole Building Design Guide’s draft
Federal Guide for Green Construction Specifications. The CD features the latest versions of standards that have been revised since ASTM released the first edition and a few standards that were left out of the first edition (E 408 on emittance of surfaces, for example).
Unfortunately, the CD was released before the publication of some recent standards related to green building, such as the
Standard Guide for the General Principles of Sustainability Relative to Building (see
EBN
Vol. 14, No. 10) and the four standards addressing green roofs (see
EBN Vol. 15, No 1). Look for these in a future edition. To see the full list of standards, search ASTM’s website for “green05,” and then click on “Check the Contents.” Although the CD is designed for use on Microsoft Windows®, the standards are also accessible by Apple Macintosh® machines.
