Atlanta Plans Model Urban Redevelopment

A 138-acre (56 ha) site in downtown Atlanta that formerly housed an Atlantic Steel Mill is now slated for redevelopment as a mixed-use, pedestrian and transit-accessible area. The development is the first major urban project to be approved under the U.S. EPA’s Project XL, a program to allow regulatory flexibility for projects with overall environmental benefits.

While the formal agreement between the developer, Jacoby Development, and the EPA focuses on the transportation issues, Jacoby has made a voluntary commitment to address other environmental aspects of the project.
